A camp woven into the fabric of the Chyulus in Kenya

Campi ya Kanzi is an award-winning boutique eco-lodge in the Chyulu Hills of southern Kenya, in Ernest Hemingway’s “Green Hills of Africa”. For more than 20 years, the camp was the only Kenya luxury safari lodge on a Maasai-owned reserve spanning 375,000 acres of pristine wilderness. The Hills volcanic summits are covered in a rich green cloud forest,  home to a completely different array of trees, flowers, insects, birds, and mammals. This special Maasai land supports amazing wildlife, with immense biodiversity, including zebra, giraffe, antelopes, and apex predators like lions and leopards for game viewing.

The best from a Kenya holiday

We have fond memories of our time in “The Green Hills of Africa” and getting to know, however briefly, Antonella, Claudia, yourself and all at Campi ya Kanzi. We also loved the intimate contact with the Maasai they were so welcoming when we visited, we felt like we were guests not tourists. We cannot express how much we fell in love with Africa in general. We felt like we had come home. Judy and I felt just like Hemingway when he quoted “I am homesick already and I have not even left Africa yet.” We felt the same way.. will continue to keep our time at “Campi” close to our hearts. Asanteni sana to you all .

Campi ya Kanzi was born in 1975 when Luca first set foot in the Chyulu. It was a childhood dream for 20 years, and become a reality in 1995 when Luca & Antonella moved to the Chyulu permanently. It took a few years to build, during which time we lived in a small tent for more than 24 months… The toilet was a pit in the bush and the shower a bucket on a tree, with stars as the canopy… Luca misses it, Antonella still damages his credit card in retaliation!

For more than 20 years we enjoyed hosting wonderful friends (not just guests) from all over the world.

You can also enjoy the beauty of the Chyulu and the wonderful Campi ya Kanzi team by visiting Chyulu Club, the new lodge we built with and for Rosey Institute.

And you can book a safari with Luca, who does a camel safari and an air safari every year. Just contact us: bookings@maasai.com
