A Walk in the Wilderness…
280 000 acres of pure, pristine, vast wilderness; 63 different large mammal species, 400 different bird species; and a tremendous range of biodiversity. This is Campi ya Kanzi.
A walk in the Chyulu Hills cloud forest, or a walk in the plains will provide you with a sense of serenity and peace alongside the environment where solitude and adventure are at the peak of your senses.
The Chyulu Hills are one of the most iconic landscapes on the African continent: the “Green Hills of Africa” that Ernest Hemingway came to again and again in which inspired him to write “The Snows of Kilimanjaro”. While camping these hills and plains, and where the view of the famous mountain of Mt. Kilimanjaro is supremely beautiful. With the wildlife roaming in abundance, massive granite outcroppings rising over rivers and lava flows that cut across the plains, and a deep mysterious cloud forest on the crest of the green hills, this landscape is truly one of the greatest wilderness experiences anywhere.
The ability to walk is something very special that we have here at Campi ya Kanzi. While on safari in any National Park, the ability to walk around is not permitted. However, here at Kanzi we are positioned as the corridor directly between two of the most legendary parks in Kenya, Tsavo National Park, and Amboseli National Park. The ability to walk in the wilderness is endless. You can sincerely enjoy taking a stroll through the foothills to the granite-topped outcroppings at the edge of the savannah.
Climbing to the top of these outcroppings, alongside your Maasai tracker and guide, will allow you to take in a view that will make your heart skip a beat, and maybe even bring a tear to your eye.
Regardless of the weather, rain or shine, the view for hundreds of miles in all directions combined with the calmness of the plains creates a feeling of integration with the environment and the culture of the land.
A finally, capping off your hike with the walk back to Kanzi, be sure to catch a glipse to the left of the sun setting behind the Roof of Africa to provide the perfect ending to your day.
